Olompali – Novato

Olompali – Novato

Site of probably the oldest and largest Native American village site in Marin County.

Best known now for the couple of years the Grateful Dead people lived and partied there.

Excellent interpretive panels throughout.

It’s worth the walk up to the Miwok Village.

The old party house half burned down in 1959.

Unusual but no-doubt-about-it Kitchen Rock. Probably moved here from somewhere else on the property. More mortars and midden hiding in plain site.

Keep going.

Best effort we’ve seen to bring a place back to life.

Read the interpretive materials. Great hiking up Mount Burdell if you’re in the mood.

The number is how many bedrock mortars we have counted at this site.
