Silva Creek Cave – Byron

This enchanted site features a single bedrock mortar and possible basin metate amidst the astounding array of Volvon village and camp sites in the Black Hills.

This cave has an official designation CA-CCO-6 and was recorded when the Los Vaqueros Dam was built in 1998 uncovering 8,000 year old indigenous human remains.

For how many years was this spot in use? What was being prepared in this mortar?

Looking up Silva Creek there are a number of enticing caves we could not get to.

We are always looking for the lost Cave of The Hands, reported but not recorded 60-70 years ago.

Try to imagine what was going on here for 10,000 years, or more.

Every single site has a story.
